The first 5 years of a child are very important, we have learnt at Wells of Hope that Children who lost their parents to imprisonment before they made five years get more affected than children whose parents were imprisoned when they were above 5 years!
The freeway of Life:
The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:7-8 NIV
I get amazed by the American road network, and I find the freeway breathtaking. The times i have been driven on the freeway, my mind never stops to wander , i have been like a tourist who has enjoyed seeing all this magic on the roads for no pay .Thanks to the American People!
Everything that happens on the freeway has taught me a lot about life.
On the 2nd day of this year , my friend Mark was driving me to the Train station at a high speed so that I don’t miss the train, he is one of the best drivers I have met , so to comfort me he told me that in his early life he used to race cars. while the talk was going on, we saw a car fly away from a long trailer and it crumbled though at a distance in our eyes full view. He then told me that, now he knew what it could mean driving behind long big long trucks/trailers like that one. Good enough the truck was on the last lane on the right, and the car flew into a ditch. I don’t think someone was hurt!
Its at that time that I remembered a few days past I had a conversation with Anna ,one of my friends who sponsors a child of a prisoner at Wells of Hope. She told me that, when she leaves her house , she commits her life to the Lord, because she cannot guarantee what will happen during the day, so she told me that, you can never know what will happen on the freeway!
My work in the prison has taken me close to people, who were walking their way, and they met trouble, most of them are innocent. There is this lady Called Betty, she told me that one day she was walking with her husband in the evening, when they passed by a trench, they saw a drunken man struggling for life , so they called the police. When the police came they found the man had died in the trench, so they took the dead body, and asked Betty and her husband to accompany them to give a statement, little did she know that ,this was the genesis of their way to the gallows for a murder they did not commit.
This arose from our Good Samaritan sessions in the prison, we normally ask the inmates, if they had known prior what would happen the day they were arrested, whether they would take that road. We share the good Samaritan story , which talks about a man who was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. Luke 10:25 -37 says that this man was beaten and left there half dead. So The question we normally give prisoners in our sessions, is that, If this Man mentioned in this story knew that he would meet robbers on the way, would he have followed that route?, would he even have left his house? Many inmates identify with this question. Our intention is to teach that we should be willing to help people regardless, and reach out with a hand especially when dealing with HIV.
In life, most of us plan, we start out on a journey, on what I will call on the freeway of life, it could be a business, a marriage, education, a career, name it, with high expectations, but sometimes things happen along the freeway, and they change the course of our lives, for good or bad and for some people they never get to their intended destination.
But what should we do? The bibles says that the Lord will watch over your coming and going , we should abandon our lives to Him, so that He can lead us . We should give Him the driver’s seat!
To avoid trouble on the free way, its advised to drive at authorized speeds, in our lives we should avoid our own speed and follow the speed of the Lord.
To avoid a ticket, obey the rules, God wants us to live according to His precepts, being prayerful does not mean to be careless.
Sometimes on the free way the road may get a little bumpy ,or you may find a road under construction and you may have to change the road to use, so that means we should yield and thank God when things don’t go our way, our ways are not His ways ,He sets up these diversions so that we escape trouble, also the Bible says give thanks in all situations, thank God!
If you have someone else in the car traveling with you, then you are permitted to drive in the car-pool lane. It helps you to beat the traffic and arrive quickly. In real life we should appreciate the support of friends, we should appreciate the good things, the blessings the Lord will shower upon us along the way. We should always look at the good side of life and thank the Lord always!
Let me talk about Road rage, we get disappointments, frustrated and angered even the littlest things could drive you crazy, but however dare the situation is, keep your cool the Lord is in control, forgive and move on .Shouting and getting annoyed by situations and people will not take us anywhere instead it derails us from the course, some people end up causing accidents because of road rage!
Life is a journey on a freeway, that we need to allow the Lord , to direct our paths,to show us the right lanes , at the right time . Proverbs 3:5 says, that Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
On the highway , sometimes you need to let other go infront of you, slow down, read signs ,read bumper stickers and billboards. Smile at your fellow freeway users, wave in gratitude if they let you go. I think you need to be cheerful and happy in life, be good to your fellow men, and be kind. my mother would add, “be considerate “
If we have committed our freeway to the Lord to drive us, whatever happens, He is the Lord and He will always be sovereign – Let His will be done! We should redirect our attitude and have faith in Him, instead of fear. Have Hope in the Lord! Psalms 23:4 says Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
The risks on the highway should not stop us moving, and living our lives,God is our insurance,He is our everything!
Everyday, every moment commit the freeway of your life to him, Psalms 12:8 says, The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”’ Numbers 6:24-26(NKJV)
